After you’ve had your diffuser for a few months, you might notice that it’s not working as well as it used to. Or maybe you diffused an oil or combination of oils that didn’t smell so great.
What can you do? The best thing you can do is to clean your diffuser.
Yes, most diffusers come with cleaning instructions, but heaven knows that we don’t always keep those little booklets handy. Thankfully, it’s easy to clean your diffuser, and no special ingredients or tools are needed.
This demonstration uses the Petal diffuser, but the instructions are the same for any ultrasonic diffuser.
How to Clean Your Essential Oil Diffuser
Unplug the diffuser and open it.
Carefully empty any liquid that’s inside. If water gets into the motor or inside the housing, the diffuser will be ruined.
Fill the diffuser reservoir with a 50/50 mixture of tap water and plain white vinegar.
Run your diffuser for 5-10 minutes with this mixture in it, and then carefully pour out any leftover liquid.
Use a paper towel or cotton cloth to wipe any deposits from the corners or tight spots. Be sure to clean the sensor, since that’s a critical part of the machine.
Wipe the outside dry with a clean cloth and you’re done!
Clean your diffuser at least once a month to remove any buildup of smells or hard water.
